Hi there! I am an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Winston-Salem State University. My research explores issues of international security and governance, broadly construed, using the Arctic region as a case for analysis. I am interested in how states understand their security challenges in the Arctic, particularly dynamics of climate change, identity activation, and competition. I am also interested in how those dynamics create narratives and the ways in which different actors react to them in regional fora, such as the Arctic Council. Before coming to Winston-Salem, I received PhD in Global Studies from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and my undergraduate degree in International Relations from Sao Paulo State University, in Brazil. 

As a researcher and a professor, my goal is to encourage students to become more involved with International Relations research by providing constructive feedback and highlighting the importance of a solid foundation for any career path. Knowing your basics, whether in IR or in life, goes a long way.
